Torrential rain: 49 people die, 40 others go missing

Kathmandu, Sept 28: As the rains lashed out the country, the death toll in the disasters- floods and landslides- has reached 49, while the number of those gone missing stands at 40.     

The Kathmandu Valley alone saw the deaths of 32 persons- casualties combined from Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur districts.     

Joint Spokesperson of Nepal Police, SSP Bishwo Adhikari, informed that 40 persons had gone missing in the floods and landslides occurred after the rainfall, while 34 people were injured.     

The major highways are damaged in at least 44 places, causing sheer disruption in transport. 


Over 1,000 people rescued     

The police have continued all-out efforts with the collaboration of all sides.     

So far, more than 1,000 people have been rescued from disasters. A total of 17 persons were injured and 12 went missing in the floods and landslides that occurred in Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur districts.     

The Armed Police Force has requested all concerned to contact the hotline at 1114 for emergency rescue. (RSS)
