PM Oli emphasizes preservation of civilization, culture

Patan (Lalitpur), Sept 14: Prime Minister and Chairperson of the CPN UML, KP Sharma Oli, underscored the importance of preserving civilization and culture, stating that if they deteriorate, their originality could not be restored easily.     

Addressing the 31st annual general meeting and 11st general convention of the Jyapu Samaj Yala at Mangal Bazar, Lalitpur today, PM Oli stated that Nepal is a rich country in terms of culture and civilization. He asserted that Nepal's cultural and historical legacy was deeply rooted in the Kathmandu Valley and the it embodied the cultural identity of the country.     

Nepal has a dignified history in terms of culture, heritage and linguistic diversity, he mentioned that the cultural prosperity is equally important for any country besides economic prosperity. While the economic recession could be addressed within a year or two, the erosion of culture could take centuries to correct, he argued, urging all for preserving culture and civilization.     

The Head of the Government hailed the Jyapu culture for being the basis for Kathmandu Valley's significant culture- diverse and unique culinary traditions and artistic heritage.     

He praised the Jyapu Samaj for its contributions towards preservation of art and culture as well as heritages.     

Furthermore, he acknowledged the role of 105-year-old Manmaya Maharjan in culture and art conservation bid and expressed his confidence that her blessings would further enable them for cultural protection.     

On the occasion, PM Oli honoured various individuals contributing to this cause. He also feted students scoring outstanding grades in the SEE exam.     

Expressing his concern over decline in the pass percentage among the SEE students down to 48 per cent this academic year, he pledged to improve the pass percentage to over 70 per cent next academic year for which he announced subsidized online classes for SEE attempting students in five major subjects.     

On the occasion, Chiribabu Maharjan, Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City commended the undertakings of the Jyapu Samaj.     

Madhu Sudan Poudel, Bagmati Province Assembly member, called for broader recognition of Newari language.     

Mahalaxmi Municipality Mayor Hari Govinda Shrestha acknowledged the notable cooperation and contribution of the Samaj in preservation and promotion of historical traditions, languages, art and culture.     

Jyapu Mahaguthi's Acting Chairperson Gyanendra Jyapu advocated for establishing caste rights for the Jyapu community in coming days.     

The Jyapu Samaj Yala has been protecting and promoting tangible and intangible cultural heritages besides undertaking charitable works since its establishment in 2051 BS.(RSS)
