By Our Correspondent,Gulmi, Sept. 12: Chhatrakot Rural Municipality in Gulmi district has imposed a complete ban on the use of Khada (a ceremonial scarf) in its area.
A meeting of the executive committee of Chhatrakot Rural Municipality has decided not to use scarf in any programme held within the Rural Municipality area, informed Bir Bahadur Pun, its Chief Administrative Officer.
According to Pun, it has been decided to ban the use of Khada in formal and informal programmes. He said that the rural municipality urged all concerned authorities to implement it. Use of Khada in any programme increases only unnecessary expenses, Pun said.
It has been decided to ban the use of Khada in formal and informal programmes organised in the office of the Rural Municipality, ward offices, health institutions, schools and other bodies under the Rural Municipality.
Ram Prasad Pandey, Chairperson of the Rural Municipality, said that around Rs. 500,000 is spent annually to buy Khada by various offices including the rural municipality.
He said that the amount could be provided to the victims and the people affected by disasters.
Stating that flower garlands would be used instead of Khada, Chairperson Pandey said that the ban on the use of Khada would help the entrepreneurs.
He said that employment opportunities would also be created as the floriculture business could thrive when people start using flowers in place of the scarfs.
