Kathmandu, Jan 15: A total of 1,116 fire incidents have been reported in different districts of the country in the last five months. Sixteen people have been killed in these incidents.
Nepal Police spokesperson, Senior
Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bishwa Raj Adhikari said that 145 people have
been injured in the disaster.
According to him, 190 houses, 130
cowsheds and one government office were destroyed and 455 cattle perished in
the incidents.
More than 8,000 police personnel
were mobilized for containing the fire. Spokesperson Adhikari said the fire
incidents resulted in a property loss of around Rs 500 million.
Police said 29 families were
displaced due to the fire incidents. The highest number of fire incidents was
reported in Koshi province at 131 places.
According to the data released by
the police on Tuesday, 269 fire incidents were reported in Madhes Province, 70
in Bagmati Province, 140 in Kathmandu Valley, 81 in Gandaki Province, 114 in
Lumbini, 51 in Karnali and 60 in Sudurpaschim Province.
The National Disaster Risk
Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) stated that fire broke out at 19
places across the country yesterday alone. NDRRMA spokesperson Dr Dijan
Bhattarai said two persons were injured in the fire.
NDRRMA has urged all to take
special precautions while using fire, electricity and gas-related materials as
fire incidents are taking place daily. (RSS)
