Mother tongue should be developed as official language: Tourism Minister Pandey

Kathmandu, Sept 8: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Badri Prasad Pandey has said that the mother tongue should be made the official language of the province and local levels.     

 Speaking in a programme organized here on Sunday on the occasion of the establishment day of the Language Commission, he said that the use of official language should be increased to promote the languages of all communities.     

Minister Pandey mentioned that currently the number of languages in Nepal has reached 131 and the number is increasing.     

He opined that sound could disappear unless it comes in the form of script. Minister Pandey said, "Promotion of language is important. Individuals should have the opportunity to work and communicate in their mother tongue.”     

Minister Pandey said that he would soon introduce various reforms programmes in the Ministry. (RSS)
