'Laws should be formulated to increase quality of community schools'

Kathmandu, Sept 4: Lawmakers of the House of Representatives have laid emphasis on the need of making legal arrangements that would allow best performing students of the university to teach in schools.     

Presenting amendment on the bill in today's meeting of the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee under the HoR, lawmaker Gagan Kumar Thapa mentioned that arrangement should be made in law for exploring capable, outstanding teachers providing them service and facilities if community schools are to be made better than private schools.     

Similarly, lawmaker Ganga Karki pointed out the need finalizing the school education bill based on the suggestions of experts of all sectors including National Association of Rural Municipalities in Nepal.     

Lawmaker Ghising Limbu Lama was of the view that legal arrangements should be made people holding public positions and people's representatives send their kids to community schools.     

Likewise, HoR members—Asim Sah and Rishikesh Pokharel stressed on making all-level education compulsorily and free.     

Stating that number of teachers is increasing rather than students at most of the schools in rural areas, Hit Bahadur Tamang shared that the issue of merging schools based on the necessity should be provided in the law.     

Earlier, the lawmakers, who registered amendment to the bill, demanded to make school education bill disabled-friendly, make physical infrastructures of schools and curriculums disabled-friendly, arrangements of purchasing school uniform, books and copies by guardians on their own.     

They also asked to make school education system timely, making community schools capable of competing with institutional schools.     

The bill has been introduced with an objective of amending and integrating existing laws related to school education and organsing establishment and operation of schools in the country.     

A total of 152 lawmakers have registered amendments to the bill.(RSS)
