HoR session: Increasing incidents of landslides, floods, traffic accidents rile lawmakers

Kathmandu, Aug 27: House of Representatives (HoR) members have demanded the government ensure free treatment of the survivors of the floods, landslides, and road accidents, with rehabilitation facilities for the needy.     

Seeking time in a session of the lower house today, Sushila Thing, drew the government's attention towards the damages caused by the August 23 rains at the endangered Hayu settlement in Sindhuli, resulting in the demolition of five houses and the displacement of 15 families. She demanded proper compensation for the losses and rehabilitation of the affected in safer areas. She also urged the government to support the livelihood of the survivors.     

Janardan Sharma also sought the government's attention towards the urgency to take measures to combat growing loss of lives and properties in monsoon-related disasters and road accidents. He also wanted the government to determine the cause of earth fissures in Salyan following the Jajarkot earthquake last year.     

Amresh Kumar Singh advised the government to be serious about the urgency to combat road accidents. Who is responsible for frequent traffic accidents: the government, or traffic police, or the Department of Transport? He wondered why all this is happening, pressing the need to improve the condition of roadways as well.     

Shanti BK expressed her concerns over rising cases of violence against women at home and abroad. "The scenario is enough to suggest that women are not safe anywhere else," she said.     

Ganesh Parajuli and Shiba Nepali were among those members demanding the government to be serious about the rising graph of road causalities in the country.     

Similarly, airing their views in a zero hour, Bhagbati Chaudhary was concerned about the safety of citizens amidst the rising incidents of crime of late in the country.     

Meena Tamang raised her concerns over the alleged killing of Mamta Kafle by her spouse in the United States of America.     

Mangal Prasad Gupta was worried over the discomforts and challenges that people are suffering in different parts of the country due to floods and landslides.     

Yogendra Mandal and Rana Kumar Balampaki Magar urged the government to be serious towards the need to improve the entire education system right from the school level.     

Ramhari Khatiwada, Roshan Karki, Laxmi Tiwari, Lalbir Chaudhary, Leeladevi Limbu, Leelanath Shrestha, Lekhnath Dahal, Bikram Pandey, Bijula Rayamajh, Rajendra Bajgain, Rukmini Rana Baraili, Ram Kumar Rai, and Ramkrishna Yadav demanded the government be proactive against rising corruption, crime and price rise in the country.(RSS)
