Bharatpur (Chitwan), Aug 26 : Bharatpur Metropolitan City (BMC) has provided full scholarships to 266 students pursuing Grade 11 in institutional schools.
The students were selected for
scholarships as per the Education Act and the Scholarship Management Procedure
of Bharatpur Metropolitan City by inviting online applications.
Bharatpur Metropolitan City Mayor
Renu Dahal said the scholarships were distributed to the students on the basis
of their ability and qualification.
She shared Bharatpur has made
significant strides in the education sector. She further said that the
metropolitan city is moving ahead with the aim of providing access to education
for all.
Mayor Dahal noted that the
metropolis has been laying emphasis on improving government schools and make
them competitive.
Scholarships have also been
distributed to students from minority and marginalised communities. "We
have adopted a policy to encourage merit-based students to study", said
Chief of the Educational Administration Division, Subhash Chandra Acharya.
Scholarships have been given from
30 institutional schools. Among the scholarship recipients are 99 from the
merit-based category, 96 from the poor and disadvantaged, 26 from the
indigenous nationalities, 13 from the Dalit category, eight from the people
with disability and 24 from the families of martyrs and those injured in the
people's movement.
The metropolitan city has been
distributing scholarships annually. Last year, the metropolis had awarded
scholarships to 274 students.
