NC-UML coalition for political stability: Chief Whip Ghimire

Mahottari, Aug 4: Nepali Congress (NC) parliamentary party Chief Whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire asserted that the coalition between NC and CPN-UML was for political stability.     

At a press meet organized by the Nepal Press Union, Mahottari chapter in Bardibas on Sunday, Ghimire reiterated that the two largest parties in the parliament formed the government to ensure political stability, which is essential for economic progress in the country.     

"Generally, there is a practice of the largest party to run the government while the second largest party to say in opposition in the multi-party system. But, present government came into being in order to fulfill special responsibilities.     

He further made it clear that the largest two parties formed a coalition government after no party in the parliament obtained a clear majority in the parliament and due to frequent formation and dissolution of the government, we arrived at this stage, Ghimire reminded.     

Chief Whip Ghimire claimed that the economic activities were moving in the reformative direction following the formation of the incumbent government, since, he observed, it gave a message regarding prospects of political stability in the country.     

Citing the monetary policy that was launched some days ago, he said that the economic experts hailed that it would positively impact the national economy. "The capital market is also excited over the new policy," he remarked.     

The NC leader also said the incumbent government, formed to ensure political stability, had not luxury at all to fail.     

As for amendment in constitution, Ghimire said that talks and consensus among the political parties could enable amendment in the national statute. "Constitution is not any book nor a story. It is a dynamic document that keeps guiding the country. Therefore, it could be revised based on need and relevance," he mentioned.     

According to him, the constitution would be amended to further strengthen democratic republic. He cited many democratic countries across the world which have considered revising constitution.     

The Chief Whip assured that the next amendment would be considered to cater to the need of the country and through the consensus among the political parties.(RSS)
