Expert team deployed to study rainfall

Kathmandu, July 11: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology is studying about the incident of the record breaking rainfall in Kanchanpur district.     

Today, the department has appointed a team of experts for the study. The team went to Kanchanpur under the leadership of Indira Kandel, senior meteorologist of the department.     

According to Kandel, physical condition and technical aspects of the rain measurement centre among other required elements will be studied by the expert team.     

She said that in some cases, questions regarding the equipment's condition among others will be studied. During the study, information will be taken from representatives of the local municipality, local and government officials along with the state of damage in the area.     

Local experience will be collected in case of rain. The monsoon rains that fell on Dodhara, Hanumannagar and Sundarpur areas of Kanchanpur on July 7 and 8 broke the record of 78 years.     

The department has established an automated rain measuring centre there. The region recorded the highest rainfall since 2003 BS. According to the information received from the department, 624 mm of rain was measured to have fallen in Dodhara, 573.6 mm in Hanumannagar and 555.8 mm in Sundarpur.(RSS)
