By Siraj Khan,Nepalgunj, July 10: In an initiative to identify and address heart, rheumatic and congenital heart issues among underprivileged students, 200 students from community schools of Nepalgunj have received free heart checkups and counseling services.

Tejashwi Heart Centre and Lions Club of Nepalgunj Life jointly organised the free heart check-up and counseling camp at Yuddha Sanskrit Secondary School in Nepalgunj.

During the three-day camp, senior cardiologist Dr. Bikas Nepal examined the hearts of students and provided counseling to the students.

Dr. Nepal emphasised the importance of such programmes for early diagnosis and treatment of heart-related issues.

He noted that all 200 children aged between five and 17 years underwent echocardiography, with some showing signs of rheumatic heart disease.

The school administration expressed gratitude for the health services provided, which significantly benefited children from low-income and underprivileged communities.

Dr. Nepal highlighted the increasing prevalence of rheumatic heart disease among children and urged parents to be vigilant in identifying symptoms, as timely treatment can lead to a cure.

Doctors explained that untreated tonsillitis, caused by streptococcus bacteria, can lead to rheumatic heart disease if not properly treated.  They emphasised the importance of prompt medical attention to prevent complications.

This initiative underscores the commitment of healthcare providers and community organisations to ensuring the well-being of vulnerable children through accessible medical care and education.
