Kathmandu, July 7: During today's session of the National Assembly (NA), lawmaker Padam Bahadur Giri expressed concern over the use of derogatory language for people with disabilities in the previous session.

He called for the removal of such terms from the parliament's official records.

As he said, in the July 4 meeting of the upper house, words like 'crippled' and 'lame' were used, which he deemed insulting to the people with disabilities. He urged the NA Chair to ensure that such language is not used in future meetings and requested the removal of those terms from the archive.

In response, NA Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal assured that the NA would investigate whether such terms were used in the meeting and would do needful towards that end.(RSS)
