Sadhvav heads to US to qualify for US Amateur Championship

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, July 5: Nepal’s leading amateur golfer Sadhvav Acharya has gone to the USA to play in the final qualifiers for the 124th US Amateur Championship. According to the United States Golf Association (USGA), the final qualifier is taking place between July 15 and 31.

According to the Nepal Golf Association, Acharya, 18, received a special invitation from the USGA to play in the second and final qualifier round. “Sadhvav received the invitation following his performance at the 2024 Junior Presidents Cup,” the national association stated.

Sadhvav will play in the qualifiers either representing North Carolina or California. If qualified, Sadhvav will make history by playing in the 124th US Amateur Championship scheduled in August at Southern Hills Country Club, in Tulsa, Oklahoma (August 5-11), and Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota (August 12-18.

Similarly, Sadhvav will also participate in the Junior Players Championship 2024 starting from August 29 to September 1 at THE PLAYERS Stadium Course in Florida. He received the tournament’s invitation from the American Junior Golf Association.

After participating in the two tournaments, Sadhvav will receive special training in the US for three months by visiting different golf clubs with a professional trainer. The youngest professional golfer of Nepal, Sadhvav has three major titles of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour under his belt. 

Sadhvav was bidden farewell by Tanka Lal Ghising, member-secretary at the National Sports Council, amidst a formal function on Thursday. Ghising congratulated Sadhvav and wished him the best for the tournaments and his time in the USA.
