We have included awareness topics in curriculum to reduce drug abuse: Minister Shrestha

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, June 26: Minister for Education, Science and Technology Sumana Shrestha has said that the awareness topics needs to be inculcated in the school level textbooks to reduce drug abuse. 

While addressing the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on Wednesday, Minister Shrestha said that the Ministry has started the campaign as a course with the society, saying that the subject of spreading awareness about drug abuse and illegal drug smuggling are not included in the curriculum.

Minister Shrestha said that it is needed to generate awareness by incorporating societal needs in the courses rather than just courses of math and science. 

She asserted that it is necessary to work in dignified mensuration and mental health as well. 

Saying that currently there is no license provision for therapists counsellors in Nepal even though that many people are trapped in vicious cycle of addiction and needs  professional help, she said that it is necessary to arrange licenses for therapists who can guide those trapped in substance abuse. If there was a provision for licensing then many helping centers will be established. 

She said that they working together with Nepal health Professional Council for the license. 

"It is necessary that everyone join hands to save children and youth from becoming drug addicts," she said.
