Nepal-America International Film Festival concludes

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, June 26: Nepal-America International Film Festival 2024, organised by the Nepal America Film Society based in Maryland, USA, concluded at the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Centre.

 The festival, held from June 20 to June 23 in Maryland, featured a diverse lineup of 35 films from 11 countries, comprising both shorts and feature films.

According to a press release issued by the Nepal America Film Society, Dhanraj Barkote’s film ‘Remnants’ received the Jury Award for the short film category while Mexico’s film ‘Mom’ received the Jury Award in the feature film category.

 Likewise, ‘No Monastery No Village’ by Tashi Lhazam received the Best Short Documentary award, while Rajan Kathet and Sunir Pandey’s film ‘Winter Holidays’ received the Best Feature Documentary award. 

Akanchha Karki’s ‘Sanai’ was awarded Best Short Narrative in the festival.

 ‘Dhye Dreams’ by Shanta Nepali received the Best Short Nepali Panorama award. 

The Best International Feature Film award was presented to Iran’s film ‘Pravin,’ and the Best Short International Film award was received by Mexico’s film ‘Nyanga.’

The festival opened with Nabin Subba's "A Road to a Village" and closed with Fidel Devkota's "The Red Suitcase." These opening and closing films were showcased outside the competitive segment.

The festival jury, comprising Deepak Rauniyar, Michael Brown, Nina Streich, and Rebecca Bustamante, selected the winners and special jury mentions for 2024.
