By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, June 25:This year’s monsoon system has spread nationwide by Monday (June 24).

This year’s monsoon arrived three days earlier than the average date, on June 10 in the eastern region of Koshi Province.

The monsoon has arrived in the remaining parts of Koshi Province, most parts of Madhes Province, Bagmati Province, Gandaki Province and the eastern parts of Lumbini Province.

It has taken 15 days from the day of arrival for the monsoon to spread across Nepal this year, according to a bulletin issued by the Meteorological Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

According to the statement, the Department is continuously monitoring this year’s monsoon system and will regularly issue monsoon bulletins accordingly.

Shanti Kandel, a senior meteorologist at the Weather Forecasting Division, said that the monsoon has spread throughout the country, but it has not yet been activated, so heavy rainfall is not expected for a few days. The Tarai districts will receive rainfall starting Tuesday, which will continue throughout the week, with isolated rainfall in the hilly areas.

“For regular rainfall, the monsoon needs to be activated, but even 15 days after the monsoon arrived in the country, it has not been activated,” said Kandel.

During the monsoon period, floods, landslides, inundation and debris flow can impact transportation, agriculture, tourism, health, and other sectors. So, DHM has advised to take necessary precautions to avoid risks or damages that may occur due to bad weather and to stay updated with the latest weather information.
