Kathmandu, June 24: Surendra Rai and Susan Tamang of the Nepali dance group ‘Wild Ripperz Crew’ have etched their names into the Guinness Book of World Records.

Representing Nepal, the duo achieved a remarkable feat by performing dance choreography at the highest altitude.

On May 19, 2024, Surendra and Susan showcased their talents at Kala Patthar which lies at an altitude of 5644.5 metres (18,519 feet) above sea level in Solukhumbu district.

However, they set the record by dancing at an altitude of 5441 metres (17,851 feet).

Their performance featured the song ‘Mann Magan,’ which lasted two and a half minutes.

Supporting their effort, Saugat Karki assisted with photography, while Sonam KC and Umesh Sapkota handled videography.

Their collective efforts have been recognised and validated by the Guinness World Records.

Reflecting on their achievement, Surendra and Susan expressed their joy, stating, “We made this record-breaking effort to protect our mountains and environment, raise public awareness about mountain biodiversity and promote tourism in Nepal.”

Despite facing adverse weather conditions during their performance, the duo successfully secured their place in the Guinness World Records.

Sanu Sherpa, who has his record for climbing the world’s 14 highest peaks over 8,000 metres twice as the fastest, served as the special witness.

This record-setting event was certified by Everest National Park, Nepal Tourism Board and Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality.
