Electoral system needs reform: Leader Koirala

Janakpurdham, June 15: Nepali Congress leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has said present electoral system needs reform. "It is time to amend proportional electoral system in our context," he underlined.     

Addressing an interaction organized by the Nepal Democratic Lawyers' Association for Madhes province here today, leader Koirala argued frequent changes in governments at province and federal levels need solution through reform in election system. Direct election should be focused more, he added.     

The leader further viewed political instability triggered by government changes was reason behind irregularities and corruption.     

Although the local governments are empowered with rights, the structure and work style are not changed, he complained.     

Another central member Dinesh Koirala viewed those involved in politics were in need of legal knowledge.     

Similarly, central member Dr Chandra Mohan Yadav demanded correction in law relating to loan-sharking. (RSS)
