blog

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, June 15: In a significant event aimed at enhancing the understanding and practice of translation, the Literature (Translation) Department of the Nepal Academy, in collaboration with the Society of Translators Nepal, organised a translation seminar in the capital on Thursday.

At the programme, President of the Society of Translators Nepal Dr. Balram Adhikari delivered a keynote speech, presenting a paper entitled "Language of Translation: Theoretical Debate and Practice."

Dr. Adhikari emphasised that translation must maintain original qualities such as grammatical accuracy and clarity while reflecting a bicultural and bilingual consciousness.

'It results in a complex and mixed language, with the translation process including necessary editing to ensure refinement and comprehensibility,' he traced.

He explained that the language's simplicity or complexity varies based on the source text and target audience, making the language of translated texts inherently flexible and open to multiple interpretations. Rajan Joshi commented on Dr. Adhikari's presentation, followed by an open session where attendees engaged with queries. Dr. Adhikari addressed their questions.

Vice Chancellor of Nepal Academy Bimal Nibha appreciated the role of translators in internationalising Nepali literature while Sakun Joshi and Rishi Ram Adhikari spoke about the activities of the Society of Translators Nepal.
