By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, June 15: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Rabi Lamichhane has claimed that 9,000 bighas of public land have been encroached upon in the Greater Janakpur area.

DPM Lamichhane provided the information during a press conference held on Friday to disclose the Home Ministry’s achievements in 100 days after he resumed the office.

DPM Lamichhane informed that the Home Ministry has launched a ‘big operation’ to address land encroachment in Janakpur. However, he did not provide detailed information.

He said, “We are working tirelessly round the clock. There will be no compromise in any case. Each case has its complexities. Therefore, it will take some time. However, there will be no compromise in ensuring good governance.”

Home Minister Lamichhane further added, “We are working continuously. You will know when the time comes. There is no one we need to protect. We are not carrying the burden of any activists, business houses, or individuals. The only burden we carry is the mandate given to us by the people.”

Similarly, DPM Lamichhane said that the government has viewed the implementation of the national identity card as a game-changing project.

He explained that the use of the national identity card would eliminate the need for citizens to carry various other cards.

Now, everything will be linked to this national ID card, DPM Lamichhane said.  He also noted that currently, many criminals use multiple SIM cards, but with the introduction of the national identity card, many things will be detected immediately upon entering the ID number.

“This will have a significant impact on good governance and overall citizen services,” claimed DPM Lamichhane. “I don’t know how much impact such

policy reforms will have, but with the concept of a national ID number, we are pushing forward a project that is truly a game changer for the country,” said the Home Minister.

He said that once the national ID is in use, it will help eliminate the root causes of crime.  Singha Durbar used to be accessible only to those with connections, but that situation has been ended for now, he said. For this, the Ministry has implemented an e-gate pass system to enter the Singha Durbar.

Complaints to Home Minister from QR code

On the occasion, DPM Lamichhane informed that service recipients can now file complaints directly to the Home Minister from their location.

He said that a system has been developed to allow service recipients to submit their complaints by scanning a QR code that will be placed in offices under the Home Ministry.
