Four of same family dead in Taplejung landslide

By Chandra Pandak, Taplejung, June 14: Four members of the same family were killed in a landslide on Thursday night in Phaktanglung Rural municipality, Taplejung.

Four members of the same family died in Khezenim Tingdu at Phaktanglung Rural municipality-2, Taplejung, in a landslide that fell from above the house triggered by the constant rainfall. 

The deceased have been identified as 70-year-old Ram Bahadur Samra Limbu, his 50-year-old wife (youngest of three) Janmaya Limbu, and their 10-year-old twins, Ganga and Jamuna Samra. The deceased were a family of the ward chair of Phaktanglung Rural municipality Rabin Samra (Bikash). 

According to Kamal Kumar Lungeli, Information Officer and Police Inspector of the District Police Office, Taplejung, all four family members died on the spot when the house was swept away by a landslide that fell from 200 meters above the house. 

It is said that a police team led by Lungeli from the District Police Office, Taplejung, reached the incident site after receiving the information about the landslide. The police from Singwa Police Station reached the spot on Friday morning. Both the teams are carrying out the rescue operation. 

He said that the details of the landslide-induced damage will take time to ascertain.
