'News report pulled me to observe Gorkhapatra photo show'

BY A STAFF REPORTER,Kathmandu, June 13: Park Tae-Young, ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Nepal, has said that Nepal’s state-owned media published by the ‘Gorkhapatra Corporation’ have played an important role in fostering bilateral relations between Nepal and Korea.

During his visit to the Corporation to observe the exhibition of rare photographs, Ambassador Park said that the two countries have been enjoying cordial and progressive relations with tremendous growth in various fields, including economic and social fronts.


He said he was inspired to observe the exhibition of the photographs by reading news story about it in The Rising Nepal.

“I read The Rising Nepal first in the morning, and the coverage of the exhibition inspired me to visit this exhibition,” he said.  

He further aid, “The exhibition provided me an opportunity to closely observe 124 years of Nepal’s history and its political movements.”

He stressed on the importance of such exhibitions for educating youth about Nepal’s political movements and development. Additionally, he said that digitalisation of the exhibition would help showcase Nepal’s history to the world. 


Stating that Korea and Nepal are marking the 50th year of the diplomatic relations between the two countries, Ambassador Park said that the Korean government was interested in increasing partnership investments in Nepal.

Korea wants to support tourism partnerships and enhance people-to-people relationships, he said.

He informed that the Korean government had been supporting Nepalis working there through the Employment Permit System (EPS) and would create additional job opportunities, recognising Nepali workers as disciplined and hardworking.


Bishnu Prasad Subedi, the Chairman of the Gorkhapatra Corporation, expressed gratitude for the ambassador’s visit, stating would inspire other diplomats to visit the exhibition to explore on Nepal’s history. 

On the occasion, General Manager of the corporation Lal Bahadur Airi briefed about the corporation and its publications. Stating that the publications were being digitalised to meet current needs, he said that it has always prioritised building positive bilateral relations and promoting common welfare. 

Acting Chief Editor of The Rising Nepal Bhimsen Thapaliya, and Ram Prasad Humgain, Chief Photojournalist of the Corporation, explained the Korean Ambassador the exhibited photographs, their context and history.
