blog

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, May 27: The House of Representatives endorsed the policy and programme of the Government of Nepal for the fiscal year 2024/25 with a majority on Sunday amid obstruction of the House by the Nepali Congress.

President Ramchandra Paudel had read out the policy document of the government in a joint session of both Houses of the Federal Parliament on May 14.

The proposal seeking the endorsement of the policy document was presented by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' after responding to the questions and concerns raised by a few lawmakers.

As the main opposition, the Nepali Congress continued obstructing the House, no detailed discussion was held on the policy and programme in both Houses this time.

“Our policies aim to fulfil the national aspirations of building a prosperous Nepal with political stability, good governance and social justice,” said PM Prachanda. He emphasised the government's commitment to these goals and assured that the input from various members would be taken seriously.

Answering the questions, Prime Minister Prachanda responded to the amendment proposals submitted by the parliamentarians.

MP Chitra Bahadur KC proposed a 16-point amendment, focusing on both linguistic and substantive changes.

“The proposed policies and programmes for the coming fiscal year aim to enhance labour, nationalism, and foreign policy, along with promoting a self-sufficient agricultural economy, entrepreneurship, infrastructure development, and job creation in the information technology sector,” said PM Prachanda. He also highlighted the inclusion of specific programmes to improve access to justice for socially neglected and oppressed classes.

Similarly, MP Prem Suwal proposed a comprehensive 48-point amendment, covering a wide range of topics including economic equality, social justice, development, nationalism, foreign policy, education, health and investment promotion.

“We take these suggestions seriously and will push for the immediate passage of the Khwapa University Bill,” said PM Prachanda. He acknowledged that some amendments would require constitutional and legal revisions, which will be discussed in the parliament.

Prime Minister Prachanda concluded by committing to work together continuously in the spirit of cooperation and progress.
