Palpa's traditional Ghatu Dance: In pictures

By Iman Sing Rana, Rampur (Palpa), May 25: The Magar settlements of Palpa district have been witnessing the traditional Ghatu Dance in these days.

The dance which was most popular in the eastern parts of the district previously, is limited to only a few places. From the Baisakh Purnima, the Ghatu dance has been performed in the Nisdi and PurbaKhola Rural Municipality's areas. 

Ghatu dance has been performing at the Nisdi Rural Municipality's wards 3, 4, 5 and 7 since Last Thursday. Nisdi-5, Belauji's Hum Bahadur Sunari said that the Sati Ghatu dance has been performed in the areas. 

According to him, the Sati custom (widow-burning custom) story is performed in the Sati Ghatu dance.

"From the King and queen's marriage, love, family life, coronation, hunting, child born, fight and up to death story of king-queen performed in the Ghatu dance through song and acting," Sunari added.
