Egg production decreases

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, May 24: Due to the continuous rise in temperature egg production has been decreased.

According to the egg-producing farmers, the cost of production of eggs increased with a reduction in the production.

Nepal is self-reliant on eggs. The production of eggs is more than its demand meanwhile it has been reduced as the temperature went up.

According to the data of the Agriculture Ministry, there are more than 70 million hens out of this 11.1 million lay eggs.

The production of eggs recorded around 1.5 billion per year but the number is coming down and the cost has been increasing as there is a reduction its production.

The current cost of producing an egg is estimated around Rs 16 however the cost in the past recorded Rs 14 to Rs 15.

Chairman of Nepal Layers Kukhurapalak Sang, Binod Pokhrel said that there is a reduction in the production of egg.

The production of eggs in the past was recorded 50 to 60 lakh, per day meanwhile it has now reduced to half.  

He informed that in addition to rising temperature, the production is getting reduced due to H 9 disease. 

The hatchery industry which had closed during Covid has not yet revived.

 According to the Federation Nepal Hatchery Industry, the industry which has started its production also producing below its capacity.

 Despite the capacity to produce to more than 50 lakh chicken in a week in the country, the production is now limited to 22 lakh, the Federation informed.
