Relief distributed to fire victims of Sunsari, Saptari

By Our Correspondent,Inaruwa/Rajbiraj, Apr. 25: Bhokraha Narshingh Rural Municipality in Sunsari district distributed relief to eight fire-affected families including Ramdev Mehta, a teacher in Ward No.3, and Jiyananda Mehta on Wednesday.

Rural Municipality Chairman Ajmal Akhtar informed that relief materials such as rice, lentils, vegetables, utensils, mattresses and blankets were distributed to the fire victims. 

Additionally, the Nepali Muslim Community Sunsari and Nepali Muslim Community Bhokraha jointly provided immediate relief to them. Harinagar Rural Municipality Chairman Haji Gafar Ansari provided financial support of Rs. 2,000 per family. 

The fire caused by a short circuit at Jiyananda's house had spread to a straw stack destroying 15 houses in the area on Tuesday. 

Nabin Krishna Bhandari, Deputy Superintendent of Police at the Sunsari District Police Office, informed that 15 houses of eight families were destroyed in the incident, injuring Mahendra Mehta's 10-year-old son. He sustained minor injuries and is receiving treatment at Inaruwa Hospital. The fire caused damages worth more than Rs. 5 million, he added. 

Meanwhile, the District Disaster Management Committee in Saptari provided financial relief to 16 families affected by the fire in Kanchanpur Municipality-5 on Wednesday.

The fire that broke out at a cowshed of a local Lalmohan Sardar on Sunday gutted 24 houses and sheds belonging to 12 individuals. The fire caused damages to property worth approximately Rs. 2.5 million, including livestock. 

The committee provided relief of Rs. 15,000 to a family with five or fewer members and Rs. 20,000 to a family consisting more than five members.
