Govt should work to reduce poverty: UML Chair Oli

blog

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Mar 20: The chairperson of the ruling coalition CPN (UML) said that the government should work to reduce poverty.

Mentioning that the earlier government increased poverty by 3 per cent, UML Chair Oli said that the government planning is to reduce poverty to zero.

Addressing a program organized by the Kathmandu District Committee at Kathmandu on Wednesday, it will be meaningless to be in government if we are not able to work in such a way that the poverty goes down to zero.

Mentioning the illustration that China has reduced poverty to zero, he said that they will take that as a footprint in their planning to reduce poverty in the country.

He said, “Now, the government has been changed. It will be meaningless to be in government if we will also increase poverty by 3 per cent like the previous government. Poverty has been reduced by 17 per cent during our tenure. But, the 17 per cent has increased to 20.26 per cent. There is no other alternative than to reduce it.”

He added that when CPN (UML) was leading the government it worked in such a way that it brought a change in the lives of denizens, management of street children, helpless, differently abled were brought in the social security limit, but those noble works were discontinued once our government was out.
