Rainfall brings respite from wildfires

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Mar 20: The rainfall of Wednesday has helped to reduce the wildfires that have been witnessed in different parts of the country. 

National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) Spokesperson Goma Devi Chemjong said that the light rainfall that was witnessed on Wednesday has supported taking control over the wildfires that occurred in Bagmati, Madhesh, and Koshi provinces. 

She said, “A large number of wildfires has been recorded in Koshi, Madhesh and Bagmati Province lately. The light rainfall that has been taking place since Wednesday has helped to take control of the wildfire recorded in Bagmati, Madhesh, and Koshi province.” A total number of 14 forests faced wildfires as fire broke out in 39 different places on March 19 alone.  

She said that the details of the wildfires will be ascertained on Thursday only.  

As per the report of NDRRMA, Morang has so far witnessed a large number of forest fire incidents followed by the Taplejung and Tehrathum districts.  

A total of 264 incidents of fire and forest fire were recorded last week, where, five human casualties were recorded. 18 people received injury and 77 animals were killed.
