Detainee found dead in Rajbiraj prison

Saptari, Feb 11: A detainee who is under investigation on rape charge has been found dead inside the Rajbiraj prison.  

  
He is 19-year-old Devendra Mandal of Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality-6, Saptari district. Prison officiating administrator Sadananda Das said Mandal was found dead, hanging inside the prison toilet this morning.    

Mandal was sent into detention at the Rajbiraj prison for further investigation on the charge of abducting and raping a 15-year-old girl in the night of July 29, 2023. He was in detention since August 28.    

He was arrested on August 2 after the victim's parents filed an FIR at the district Police Office Saptari.    

The prison administration has informed Mandal's family about the incident, said the officiating prison administrator Das.   (RSS)
