Berlin’s Golden Bear winner, Professor Xie Chief Judge of NIFF

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Feb 4: Two times Berlin Golden Bear-winning Chinese film director Professor Xie Fei is coming to Nepal as the main judge for the feature film competition of the Nepal International Film Festival (NIFF). 

The Chairman of NIFF, KP Pathak said that along with the role of judge, Prof. Xie Fei is scheduled to give a master class on film writing and directing. 

According to Chairman Pathak, Xie's last directorial ‘Song of Tibet’, made in 2000 AD, will be screened before the master class. 

Prof. Xie Fei did his undergrad in film direction at the Beijing Film Academy. His 1990 directorial movie ‘Black Snow’ won Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival. In the gap of three years, his other directorial, ‘Woman Seasame Oilmake’ won the main award, the Golden Bear at Berlin. 

He was former Vice-President of the Beijing Film Academy and has been teaching since 1980 AD. 

Octogenarian Xie is now working as an art consultant for a new generation of filmmakers. 

A total of long short movies from 40 different countries will be screened at NIFF this year. 

Nepal’s biggest film event, NIFF, will be from 4-18 March 2024, in Kathmandu Valley.
