Possibility of light rain and snowfall

Kathmandu, Jan 19: The Westerly wind has partial influences in the country at present and the weather will be cloudy with chances of light rain and snowfall due to this, stated the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Meteorological Forecasting Division.     

Senior meteorologist at the Division, Pratibha Manandhar said the sky over Kathmandu will be partly cloudy to generally clear today. There is the possibility of light rain at one or two places in the high hilly and mountainous regions of the country today.

"It is cloudy in the hilly region and there are chances of sporadic to light rainfall at one or two places of the high hilly and mountainous region. However, there is less chance of rainfall. The fog in the Tarai belt is exiting from the western part of the Tarai. There is no weather system likely to cause heavy rain," meteorologist Manandhar said.     

According to her, cold will increase in Tarai at the time of fog cover and in the high hilly and mountainous region as there are chances of cloudy and light rainfall there. Manandhar urged people to adopt precautions against the cold as this month is the time of chilly weather.     

The weather forecast bulletin issued by the Division states that the weather is presently partly to generally cloudy in the hilly region of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces while remaining partly cloudy to mainly fair in the rest of the regions. There is the possibility of light snowfall at one or two places in the high hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.     

As per the weekly weather forecast for agriculture for January 19-25, the Westerly wind will have a partial impact throughout this week.    

There are chances of light to moderate rainfall and snowfall at a few places in the mountainous region of Karnali province towards the mid-week and the weekend. Similarly, there is the possibility of intermittent to light rain and snowfall, at one or two places, and of light rain and snowfall at a few places in the mountainous region of Koshi province at the beginning and the end of the week. Likewise, there are chances of light rain at one or two places in the hilly region of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali provinces towards the middle and the end of the week.     

The maximum and the minimum temperatures of most of the places in the country are likely to drop slightly.     

The Division forecasted the occurrence of light to moderate fog in the Tarai region, and dense fog at one or two places of the region. It stated that the fog will gradually disappear towards noon and afternoon. (RSS)
