By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Dec.6: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has expressed his belief that the opportunity for talented young people to research in the country will increase.
Addressing the 41st anniversary and prize distribution program of Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), PM Prachanda said, “The government of Nepal has included establishing a fund of Rs 1 billion fund for the development of science and development in the annual program of the current fiscal year. The opportunity for talented young people to do research in the country will be increased from this fund following some procedural management.”
While mentioning that PM has had the opportunity to observe closely the contribution made by the NAST in science and technology, PM said that there has been an acceleration in the capacity development in this sector.
He said, “The government is unable to provide resources as expected by the NAST. Many obstacles come in the way of government as well. I am a student of Science, so I am aware of the reasons behind the country not being able to leap into science and technology.”
PM asked to prepare a blueprint of the strategic plan after a thorough discussion about the strategy to be devised for the development of the science and technology sector in the upcoming sixteenth five-year plan.
The PM said, “It would be appropriate to make a plan on how to be established in the sector following a thorough discussion. I request NIST to keep in constant contact with the concerned agencies of the government and prepare a blueprint for a strategic plan considering the needs and priorities of the country.”
On the occasion, PM inaugurated the technical building and biomedical research laboratory building, while, technicians and scientists were awarded as well.
