Hearing on case against Resham Lal Chaudhary postponed

By TRN Online, Kathamdmu, Nov 9: The hearing of the case against Resham Lal Chaudhary has been postponed.

The hearing of the case against Chaudhary which was scheduled after five months for Thursday has been postponed. 

Information officer of the Supreme Court, Govinda Prasad Ghimire, said that a group of the writ petitioners was halted. The case against Chaudhary was put on pause. The case against Chaudhary was not picked up by any judges in the lottery system so it was postponed. 

President Ramchandra Paudel has pardoned the remaining jail term of Resham Chaudhary on Constitution Day (2023). He was convicted in 2017 for masterminding the Tikapur massacre. Eight people including a two-year-old toddler, Senior Superintendent of Police Laxman Neupane were killed on August 24, 2015, in the Tikapur massacre. 

The writ petition was filed by the wife Sharada Kadayat Bohora of police inspector Keshav Bohara, who lost his life in the clash between the people and the police, challenging the pardon of the President.  

A single bench of Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut issued an order on June 7 seeking an explanation from the government for waiving the remaining jail time of Chaudhary. 

Kailali District Court sentenced Resham Chaudhary to life imprisonment (20 yrs. in prison) in March 2019, for his role in the Tikapur incident, which was endorsed by the Dipayal High Court. The SC also endorsed the lower court's verdict in the case of Chaudhary.
