Green flags flying to track pregnant women’s homes

BY RAJAN RAWAT,Humla, Nov. 4: Green flags have been placed in the homes of pregnant women in Humla district this year.

Once a pregnant woman's house is identified, health workers visit the house to place the green flag. This act serves a dual purpose - to alert the health workers for the routine checkup of the expecting mother and to notify the woman that her house has been marked to indicate her pregnancy.

Dan Bahadur Bohora, Coordinator of Thehe Health Post in Simkot Rural Municipality Ward Nos. 1 and 2, shared that their team was responsible for identifying pregnant women in both wards and furling green flags in their houses to indicate their status.

He mentioned that there are currently 19 pregnant women in the ward, and green flags have been affixed to the roofs of their houses. This initiative aims to inform the community about the number of pregnant women in the area and to indicate that those houses are under the supervision of the health post.

He explained that the placement of these flags is also intended to encourage family members to provide proper care and monitor the health of pregnant women, and conduct necessary pregnancy tests.

The Simkot Rural Municipality health branch has announced that this programme will be extended to all eight wards of the rural municipality, covering five health posts.

Additionally, the health post has provided food supplements to 71 children aged between 6 and 23 months to enhance their nutritional intake. Other 19 pregnant and post-partum women received Litto (nutritious Nepali baby food) and gift items. The health post has also conducted routine check-ups for the pregnant women as part of its comprehensive healthcare services.
