Speakers call for increasing people's access to RTI

Kathmandu, Sept 28: Heads of civil sector organisations have stressed that the State should not lag behind in the effective implementation of constitutional and legal provisions related to the right to information.     

Speakers of the first session of the first national conference and convention organised by the National Federation of Right to Information here today on the occasion of International Day for Universal Access to Information shared that laws would not be effectively implemented unless general people's access to information is established.     

On the occasion, the President of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Bipul Pokharel, mentioned that the Stateside should have strong thinking that information should be provided to the citizens as RTI has an important role in good governance.     

He further said, "RTI has not been effectively implemented yet. The State should not lag behind in providing the right to information."     

Likewise, the Information officer of the National Indigenous Commission, Sanjila Sapkota, opined that the citizens have easy access to information about the Commission's activities.     

Similarly, the Spokesperson of the Department of Livestock Service, Dr Chandra Dhakal, shared that information related to the daily necessities of farmers involved in animal husbandry is being disseminated.     

President of NGO Federation of Nepal, Ram Prasad Subedi, further said cooperation for the implementation of laws was necessary as NGOs are helping hands on the issues of RTI.     

September 28 is observed as The International Day for Universal Access to Information. (RSS)
