Koirala was people’s leader, says Deuba

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Sept. 11: A three-day BP Literature Festival kicked off in the capital on Sunday. 

Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba inaugurated the festival organised on the occasion of the 110th birth anniversary of the founding leader of the Nepali Congress, and the first elected Prime Minister of Nepal, Bishweshwar Prasad (BP) Koirala.     

NC President Deuba recalled BP Koirala as the people’s leader and his political inspiration. 

In the festival organised by the NC Central Working Committee in collaboration with the Nepal Writers’ Association at the party’s central office in Sanepa, Lalitpur, poetry symposium, ghazal recitations and musical shows were performed today. 

A documentary ‘Hijacking for Democracy’ was also screened. 

Prof. Abhi Subedi spoke on BP’s literature creation and life philosophy while Bhuwan Dhungana, CK Lal and Krishna Khanal spoke on BP. 

Ram Lohani, Komal Phuyal and Sadhana Pratik spoke about psycho-analysis aspects of BP’s narratives, and Amar Raj Joshi, Tirtha Bahadur Shrestha and Sangita Rayamajhi talked about environment and literature. 

Bam Kumari Budhamagar, Amrit Yonzan and Chandra Kishore spoke on Nepal’s mother tongue literature and 20 poets recited their poems. 

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Deuba introduced BP as a multi-dimensional personality. 

Stating that BP was an inspiring 

and exemplary thinker in the political spheres, Deuba said that BP is an 

immortal figure in literature even oday. 

“We have pursued the path shown by 

the political thoughts of BP,” he said.      

Stating that efforts are on to prosper the country based on his thoughts, Deuba said all political parties have been attracted not only to BP’s thoughts but are also following them as efforts are being made to bring prosperity in the country based on such farsighted thoughts.      

He said that he was hopeful that the festival would spread knowledge on the political thoughts of BP and his literary works, his struggle, and socio-economic and cultural aspects to youth.

Stating that  BP always asked them to become a good person.

“BP deeply read Marx and Gandhi. He would consider Gandhi’s thought relevant when it comes to love, peace, non-violence and democracy. He would relate to Marx when it comes to economic equality,” he said.

Deuba said that the NC was adhering to principles and ideologies propounded by late BP on the multiparty governance system and the democratic socialist economic system.

He noted BP was not only a national-level leader but also famous at the international level. 

“BP was a political thinker and a litterateur. We would speak up against all sorts of discrimination. He fought for inclusion, justice, equality and freedom for people, and he stood firm for nationality, democracy and socialism,” he said.
