By A Staff Reporter,Lalitpur, Aug. 25: Lalitpur Metropolitan City (LMC) has installed street lights in several areas outside the Ring Road. Issuing a statement on Wednesday, the metro informed that it had installed 1,400 street lights in Sunakothi, Dhapakhel, Bhaisepati, Bungamati and Khokana. Similarly, it informed that work had begun on installing lights in wards 28 and 29 and would be completed in a few weeks.

According to LMC,  the street lights can be controlled remotely from a server room. So, people do not have to manually turn the lights on and off. The lights are connected to the grid and the metropolis will pay the costs incurred to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), the statement read.

These latest installations are part of LMC's campaign to "brighten up the city" and follow the installation of 669 street lights in the core areas of the city. With support from the NEA, the city has put up lights along the Bagmati Bridge-Jawalakhel-Lagankhel-Satdobato road, Hotel Himalaya-Patandhoka-Ashok Hall-Kwalkhu-Mangal Bazaar road and the Pulchowk-Mangal Bazaar-Gwarko road a few years ago.

LMC also plans to put up lights along its section of the Ring Road and has signed agreements with the NEA and the Department of Roads for it. It believes that the installation of the lights will decrease the number of accidents and make the roads safer at night.
