BP Highway resumes, investigation committee formed

By Baburam Devkota, Sindhulimadi, May 24: The BP Highway has resumed from Wednesday afternoon.

The highway was blocked by the relatives of a deceased pregnant woman saying that negligence on the part of Sindhuli Hospital has caused the death of a 26-year pregnant woman, Ganga Kumari Shrestha from Kamalamai Municipality-5. She was taken to the Sindhuli Hospital for her delivery but lost her life on Tuesday evening.

The District Administration Office (DAO) said that the all-party meeting was held on Wednesday morning in the DAO office to find out the truth about the cause of death. The victim’s side and Sindhuli Hospital agreed on three points.

According to DAO, traffic on the B.P. Highway was resumed after the three-point agreement. The tension-filled atmosphere of the headquarters of Sinduli has returned to normalcy and the hospital has resumed its services as well.

Sunita Nepal, Chief District Officer(CDO) said that in the all-party meeting, it was agreed that the Ministry of Health of Bagmati Province will form a four-member investigation committee, in which there will be two doctors appointed by the ministry, one representative of District  Health Office and one representative from the victim side.

 Postmortem of the deceased will be conducted by the doctors of Dudhauli. The last rite will be performed fowling postmortem. The victim side has agreed to withdraw all the demonstrations.

According to Som Bahadur Shrestha, the brother-in-law of the victim, Ganga Kumari Shrestha was brought to the hospital for delivery around noon on Tuesday. After being declared deceased at 5 pm, Shrestha’s body was brought to Sindhuli Hospital and was kept there.
