Kathmandu, May 10 : Three international flights have been diverted to Varanasi and Lucknow of India.
An Air India plane was diverted to Banaras while Fly Dubai and Indigo Air were diverted to Lucknow after Air India aircraft could not land at Tribhuvan International Airport.
According to Teknath Sitaula, the spokesperson of the TIA Office, out of the three diverted planes, Air India and Fly Dubai planes have already landed in the second attempt while Indigo Air is scheduled to land in Kathmandu at 10:45 pm.
Before being diverted, the Air India flight had overshot when it was about to land at Tribhuvan International Airport this afternoon. After the missed approach, the plane was put on hold in the sky for about an hour. The plane was then diverted to Banaras after it could not approach again.
An air traffic controller of the airport said that the plane of Air India failed to land due to the problem of tail wind. The pilot could not land the plane due to strong southerly wind.
As a result, the Himalayan Airlines airplane coming from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia has just landed after being held in the sky above Simra for almost an hour. Singapore Airlines aircraft also had to be put on hold. (RSS)
