Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City-16 declared child labour free ward

By Gokarna Paudel, Tulsipur, May 10: The Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City-16 has been declared a child labour-free ward.

In the preliminary survey, 35 children were child labours. Of them, 30 are rehabilitated in their families. The families of the other five children were given employment opportunities to uplift their financial status. 

Shiva Nanda Dangi, ward chair of Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City-16, said that the other five children were provided with necessary study materials and have been admitted to the school. 

Likewise, wards 1, 2, 6, and 18 of Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City have also been declared child-labour-free wards. 

Maya Shrestha, Chief of the Women, Children and Social Welfare Development department of the Sub-Metropolitan office, said that preparations are underway to declare the ward child-friendly ward. Of the 51 lists of criteria to become a child-friendly zone, free of child labour is one. 

Tika Ram Khadka, Mayor of the Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City had declared Ward 16, a child-labour-free ward. 

Mayor Khadka said that child labour, exploitation, and violence is a crime, therefore, with the support of all, preparations are underway to make a noble society by declaring a ward a child-friendly ward. 

He said that a conducive environment for sending all children to school will be made. 

Syani Chaudhary, Deputy Mayor of the Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City said, “We are diligent in making education compulsory, free, and accessible.” 

Ward development institutions, schools, and organizations were honoured for their contribution to making ward-16, a child-labour-free ward.
