By Our Correspondent,Jaleshwar, May 5: Jaleshwar Municipality in Mahottari district has begun a 35-day Mithila painting training programme for women with the aim of promoting culture and providing opportunities for income generation.

The training was inaugurated on Wednesday by Mayor Suresh Sah Sonar at the office of its Ward No. 2.

Sonar stated that the municipality has been making efforts to encourage women to develop new skills and that the high demand for Mithila painting in the national and international market makes it an attractive income

option for women.

He also emphasised that Mithila painting was closely associated with the identity and pride of the Mithila community, and that learning the craft could bring name and fame to the women while also making them self-sufficient.

He also promised that the municipality would support the women to implement their skills in the real world after the training and urged everyone to apply what they learn.

Barun Dahal, chairman of Jaleshwar–2, hoped that the training would help revive the fading tradition of Mithila painting, while also allowing the women to earn.

Shiva Chandra Chaudhary, the President of Durga Puja Committee in Jaleshwar, one of the organisers of the training, expressed happiness that the municipality was working to train women in Mithila art to preserve the region’s culture and heritage, as well as to empower women to earn a living.

Chaudhary encouraged women to take advantage of this opportunity to learn painting as it could provide them with a decent income while working from home.

Gajendra Gupta, a young man from Jaleshwar, also praised the programme for linking cultural preservation with income.

Ranjit Raut, who is involved in organising the training, reported that 30 women were participating in the training.
