By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Apr. 24: Deputy Prime Minister and Home
Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha has stressed promoting insurance at the grass roots
to manage disaster risk mitigation.
He said so while speaking at a
national workshop on 'disaster risk management policies and practices:
opportunities and challenges for development resilience'.
The DPM also pointed at the
need to mobilise disaster risk fund to disaster mitigation, not only limiting
it to relief distribution.
DPM Shrestha urged the local
levels to get mobilized on long-term works including identification of open
space for the time of disaster and development of necessary infrastructure.
He viewed that there was need
of effective implementation and monitoring of the national strategic action
plan on disaster risk mitigation. He also pointed at the need to unify works
related to preparedness and risk mitigation.
DPM Shrestha held that disaster
risk management work could be accomplished effectively only through efficient
coordination among all the three tiers of the government and the other stakeholders.
