Nepali, South Indian films to be released in each other's OTT

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Apr. 18: Two film related organisations of Nepal and India have agreed to release the films produced in their respective countries in OTT and theaters in both countries. 

An agreement to this effect was reached at the Indo-Nepal Cinema Exchange Summit 2023 held at the Film Development Board on Sunday.

The Nepal Film Promotion Circuit (NFPC) and the Film and Film and Television Promotion Council (FTPC) have also agreed to promote cultural exchange and enhance the film market between the two countries.

Bhuwan KC, chairman of the Film Development Board, who attended the summit as the chief guest, urged to leverage the bilateral agreement to benefit Nepali films. He said that the board was keen to welcome South Indian films to be shot in Nepal and suggested that exploring each other's markets will be mutually beneficial.

Nutan Neupane, president of NFPC, stated that they were making preparations to release each other's films as a part of cultural exchange. As per her statement, Nepali films will be dubbed in Telugu and released on OTT platforms in South India. She further informed that they have 15 to 18 OTT platforms for this purpose.

Himal Neupane, general secretary and director of NFPC, mentioned that they were working to release quality South Indian films on Nepali OTT platforms and theaters. He also stated that there have been plans to release Nepali films in South Indian states, including Kerala and Tamil Nadu. "We aim to internationalise Nepali films," he added.

PVS Varma, secretary of FTPC, shared the efforts made to promote cultural exchange between Nepal and India through the film industry. "Film exchange involves business opportunities, technology, and exchange of cast and crew," said Varma.

A team of South Indian filmmakers led by FTPC president Chaitanya Jung has been in Kathmandu for a few days to study the market and potential of Nepali films. 

Jang, the host of the summit, also highlighted that the exchange of shooting locations between Nepal and India could become an essential aspect of the collaboration.
