Kathmandu, April 2 : Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha today said the government was committed to address problems of the victims of predatory lending.
Tabling the urgent proposal of public importance in today's meeting of the House of Representatives, the DPM said the government would take steps to this effect as per the agreement reached with the victims.
"The government is serious about addressing the problems of the victims of predatory lending. The taskforce formed earlier had recommended action against loan sharks. Efforts are underway to form a powerful commission to address the problems of the victims," he said.
A proposal to form a commission to deal with the problems of the victims of loan sharking would be presented in the next Cabinet meeting, and a bill to amend the related laws be tabled in the parliament, he said.
In another context, the minister said the government had set goals of safeguarding national sovereignty, national unity and independency, institutionalising political achievements made so far, concluding remaining tasks of the peace process and taking the country to the path of development and prosperity. The government had focused on the development activities and prosperity of the country, he added. (RSS)
