Kaski, March 26 : A conservation campaign has beenstarted for the protection of the Seti River. The river originates from the Annapurna Himalayan range and flows through Machhapuchchhe Rural Municipality and Pokhara Metropolitan City of Kaski District.
The campaign for conservation has
been started to draw attention to the environmental impact of unscientific
extraction of sand and stones from the river.
The initiative is aimed at stopping
the exploitation of the river materials and to encourage the conservation and
scientific use of the river, said Engineer Hemraj Paudel.
The Save Seti campaign led by
Paudel had previously filed a petition in the Pokhara High Court to stop the
sand and stone mining from the Seti River. In response, the court issued an
interim order to stop the mining immediately.
However, the activists have drawn
the attention of the local administration saying that the excavation has not
been stopped even after the court's order.
Meanwhile, an ad-hoc committee was
formed to register the Seti protection organization under the leadership of
activist Poudel. (RSS)
