Chitwan, March 25: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that the government is working by keeping the sports sector as a priority.

Addressing the general convention of the Nepal Karate Federation through a virtual medium on Saturday, the PM said that the sports sector is a matter of international pride, not only a national issue.

He said the government is working on the development of the sports sector and more budget would be allocated.

The PM was of the view that the country’s pride would be highlighted in the international arena if more investment is assured.

Saying that the government is forced to increase the budget in the sports sector due to Nepal’s progress in sports in recent times, the PM underscored the need for a dynamic pace in sports.

He also expressed his confidence that the Federation will up its activities after the general convention that is taking place after a decade.

On the occasion, Mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City Renu Dahal suggested that sports should be linked to the tourism sector adding that the Karate sector should also develop itself at a time when the sports sector is making a good stride in the country.

Member secretary of the National Sports Council Tanka Ghising, Federation’s chairman Yubaraj Lama and other speakers shared their views.

The general convention is scheduled to elect a 21-member working committee. (RSS)
