Kathmandu, March 18: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) expressed its objection to the statements made by the Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Devraj Ghimire, saying that the Speaker's remarks seriously hurt the self-respect of the entire media sector.
Issuing a press statement today,
FNJ general secretary Roshan Puri expressed his objection to the remarks made
by Speaker Ghimire adding that the statements against the media sector coming
from the main leadership of the Parliament was baseless and deplorable.
During a meeting between the
Speaker and FNJ representatives to congratulate the newly-elected Speaker and
to hold discussions on media-related laws on Friday, Speaker Ghimire made
very critical comments on Nepal's media sector challenging its professionalism.
The FNJ has stated that the views
coming from the Speaker were unfortunate, while expressing its serious concerns
to the threats that could arise to this sector's credibility and
professionalism.
The FNJ has also urged the Speaker
to recall such baseless statements. (RSS)
