Galkot, Jan 24 : Baglung is
being developed as a hub of beekeeping. The honey produced with the bees raised
in this hilly area is considered organic and hygienic.
There are many places in the
district which are famous for bee-friendly gardens and floral plants where bees
collect enough nectar.
Dil Bahadur Khatri from Surkemela
of Beni Municipality-4 in Myagdi has chosen Rametar of Baglung-4 as a
bee-friendly area where there are floral plants and premises. He had begun
beekeeping since 2072BS.
He has been keeping bee in Baglung
and Myagdi districts for some months. He has kept 115 bee nucs in the terraces
of Rametar. There is mustard farming here so that bees collect nectar.
Moreover, the Mountain Bee Concern from
Dhapakhel of Lalitpur Metropolis-24 has also arrived in the district to raise
bee at Upallachaur, Kudule and Rametar of Baglung-4.
Chief of Mountain Bee Concern,
Dharmaraj Shrestha, who had begun bee keeping since 2051BS, informed that he had
sold more than 1,000 beehives in a year. He shared that he had known from the
social media about mustard field of Kudule, so he brought 70 nucs for
commercial purpose. The boxes are now on the bunds of mustard fields.
The Concern has more than 1,200
nucs, and been sending to the hilly districts seeking floral gardens and
plants.
"The honey produced by
Mountain Concern is exported to Japan," he said, adding that he brought
the hives in Baglung for the first time in a hope it would help thrive
beekeeping. Commercial promotion is made by selling beehives as well, according
to him.
His bee nucs are taken to different
places of Sindhupalchowk, Chitwan, Dang, Makwanpur, Rupandehi, Sarlahi and
Kathmandu districts. The bees are taken to new places where there are adequate
floral plants and atmosphere is peaceful. (RSS)
