Kathmandu, Jan 21: The process for the election to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) is underway.
In today’s meeting of the HoR, MP Sobita Gautam of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party tabled a motion seeking the election of Indira Rana Magar as the Deputy Speaker.
CPN (UML) MP Krishna Gopal Shrestha, CPN (Maoist Centre) MP Narayani Sharma and Rajendra Lingden of RPP seconded the motion of MP Gautam for the election of the Deputy Speaker.
Tabling the motion, MP Gautam said Rana Magar is a renowned figure among Nepalis in the social sector though she is new to politics.
She said that election of Rana Magar to the post of Deputy Speaker is not only respect to her qualification but also maintaining the dignity of Deputy Speaker.
Likewise, UML’s Shrestha, Sharma of Maoist Centre and Lingden of RPP appealed to all the MPs to elect Rana Magar as the Deputy Speaker stating that Rana Magar deserves the post based on her background, national and international reputation and proactive role in social work.
Also taking part in the election process, Nepali Congress MP Badri Prasad Pandey tabled a proposal asking the MPs to elect Mukta Kumari Yadav of the NC as the Deputy Speaker.
Metmani Chaudhary of CPN (Unified Socialist) and Sarbendra Nath Shukla of Loktantrik Samajwadi Party seconded the proposal.
Tabling the motion, NC MP Pandey sought a vote for Deputy Speaker candidate Yadav stating that she is an experienced one in parliamentary affairs. (RSS)
