Kaligandaki Corridor transmission line in final stage of construction

Nawalparasi, Jan 17 : The construction of Kaligandaki Corridor Electricity Transmission Line, which is being built to supply electricity of Kaligandaki Corridor to Badera substation in Nawalparasi via Beni and Kusma, has reached its final stage.

Chandan Kumar Ghosh, chief of the Kaligandaki Corridor 220 kV Transmission Line Project, said that around 95 per cent construction work of the transmission line, which started construction work since January 2018, has been all but completed.

After the completion of the construction of Kaligandaki Corridor 220 kV transmission line, which is being built with the concessional loan of Asian Development Bank (ADB), the transmission line will be connected to the East-West Power Highway of Nepal by connecting this transmission line to the New Butwal Bardaghat 220 kV substation located at Sunwal-12 Badera in Nawalparasi.

Ghosh said that Kaligandaki Corridor Transmission Line is also planned to connect to Butwal-Gorakhpur cross-border transmission line to be built in the future.

He said that this project, which should have been completed by December 2021, had been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic

Among the 233 towers to be constructed, most have been constructed, while five towers to be constructed in Nawalparasi area are under construction.

It has been said that construction of poles and wire pulling work has also been completed in the hilly part of this transmission line, which reaches Sunwal in Nawalparasi (West) via Myagdi Parbat and Palpa.

Kaligandki Corridor 220 kV transmission line will be connected to the New Butwal-Bardaghat 220 kV substation built in Sunwal of Nawalparasi via Myagdi, Parbat, Syangja. 

And then the electricity generated on the Gandaki river bank area will be connected to East-West Electricity Highway.  

After the construction of this transmission line, the electricity produced in about a dozen small and large power plants built in Kaligandaki area will be connected to the national transmission line.

After the construction of 220 kV transmission line substation in Sunwal and Kaligandaki Corridor Transmission Line Project, it is said that the problem of power shortage in the industrial areas of Nawalparasi and Rupandehi will be solved and the problem of intermittent power cuts in this area will be overcome.
